TOPIC: Introduction to the Delta Wye Transformer Connection
Summary: In this video tutorial series, our goal is to intuitively understand the 30 degree phase relationship between the HV winding and the LV winding for the Delta Wye transformer connection.
We begin by simply drawing the Delta Wye connection, discussing the difference between line-to-line voltage and phase voltage, we define line current and phase current, then discuss the magnitude relationship between the two by drawing and analyzing the current phasor/vector diagram..
For the sake of completeness, in part 6, we consider the voltage phasor diagram and understand the difference between an open form vs close form voltage phasor diagram. These illustrations are often found in transformer nameplates.
The First six part were required to intuitively understand the phase relationship between the HV winding and the LV winding. In Part 7, we begin discussing the HV winding and LV winding phase relationship in the most intuitive manner possible.
